La causa y la zampoña
We are half way through our adventures in Peru!
This week we were lucky to continue our cultural awareness and appreciation of Peru via its music and food.
La comida
We learned how to make (and eat) la causa rellena for the main course. There are many ways to put the ingredients together. We opted for burrito style. Upon eating la causa rellena, it reminded us of the taste of Sheperd´s Pie.
For dessert, we tried mazamorra morada y arroz con leche. For an added twist on the traditional arroz con leche, we used quinoa in lieu of rice. Both desserts are delicious on their own, but is traditionally served together in Peru. A lot of students loved the new flavor combination and went for more servings repeatedly.
La música
We visited a local musician who taught us how to play ¨The Sound of Silence¨on the zampoña. The students were very focused throughout the lesson and were surprised with their progress in such a short time.
