à la boulangerie
We are already in our third week of the program! After a wonderful weekend in Normandy learning about the history of World War II and visiting the Mémorial de Caen, Arromanches-les-Bains, the American cemetery and a farm, we returned to Paris just in time for a canicule, a heat wave across all of France this week.
On Monday, part of the group met a boulanger, a baker, and visited a boulangerie! We learned about the different types of baguettes, including which ingredients are required and how to make special designs in the baguettes, Next, we learned the origin of viennoiseries, which are baked goods including croissants and pains au chocolat. Then, we got to test out our skills and prepare some croissants and pains au chocolat. Afterwards, we tasted the fresh, hot baguettes and croissaints that we had prepared! Yum!
We have several other exciting activities planned for this week that the students will participate in, including visits to the Grande Mosquée, Père Lachaise cemetery, the Bastille neighborhood, and an art gallery.
