Getting Started
We are off! We had a smooth journey into Merida and the students are getting comfortable in their host families. These first few days we have been doing orientation, learning about our program, and familiarizing ourselves with Merida. The students are also getting used to the weather, as it is rather hot and humid here. Today is their first Spanish class, where their teacher Andres will get know everyone's Spanish levels. They have been experiencing local foods with their host families, a lunch of delicious tamales yesterday, and restaurants around the area. Today we will have a scavenger hunt to help everyone get to know Merida better, and tomorrow is our first day doing service activities! The students are excited to improve their Spanish, work with children, get to know the culture, and learn more about social work.
