Finally in Monteverde!
After a wonderful time in the Guanacaste Reserve, we arrived at Monteverde!
The famous Cloud Forest was a spectacular sight made even better by our knowledgeable guides. They pointed out rare caterpillers, epiphytes, spiders, and other wildlife. We were honored to have the unique opportunity to see the Quetzal bird, which is regarded as sacred by many Central American groups.
After the tour, we headed to the butterfly gardens for a presentation and a walk through the gardens. Students loved getting to pet insects and even the Blue Morpho butterfly.
Later, we recevied a talk by the founder of Nãi, an organization that works to save the endangered tapirs of Costa Rica. Students got a kick out of speaking with an actual conservation biologist and listening to his advice on everything from founding an NGO to careers in biology to living and working in Costa Rica.
Today we had an exciting treetop climbing and rappelling adventure! There aren't too many photos because everyone was busy climbing the tree, but we had tons of fun.
Can't wait to go canyoning tomorrow!
