Exploring the Wonders of Nara: A Day Trip from Kyoto
On Saturday, July 27, students in the Language & Culture Program Session II embarked on an exciting trip to Japan’s ancient capital, Nara. Just a quick train ride from Kyoto, Nara is rich in historical landmarks and home to hundreds of friendly deer.
The day’s adventures began with a visit to Todai-ji Temple, where students stood in awe of the enormous Buddha statue inside one of the world’s largest wooden buildings. They then enjoyed feeding the friendly local deer that roamed freely in Nara Park. Despite the hot summer weather, the shaded areas of Nara Park provided a cool and pleasant escape. Students also explored Nara’s famous shopping streets, picking up unique souvenirs and experiencing the local culture.
The day concluded with a relaxing train ride back to Kyoto. The student's waved goodbye to Nara with their bags filled with gifts and souvenirs and their hearts filled with cherished memories of their time in Japan’s ancient capital.
