Drawing on Our Observations
This. week, our High School Global Navigators in the Connecting Art, History, and Culture Program visited La Galleria d'Arte Moderna, known to Romans as the GNAM. Modern Art is relative, of course, in a city like Rome, where so much art is literally part of ancient history!
During their visit, the students observed the juxtaposition of both modern and contemporary art pieces with older classical statues. Throughout their workshop, they were given time to sketch different art pieces of their choosing. They worked on lines, shading, and shape to create their drawings.
With the help of their teacher, the always incredible Georgio, they were able to see pieces in different ways through the story and history each piece told. In the end, students were able to choose one piece to sketch and present to their art teacher so they could say why they chose a particular piece and also self-critique their work.
Our mini on-site lessons and workshops have certainly been a highlight for our students.
