A longtime resident of Korea Suzanne Crowder Han loves to help others learn about her “second homeland.” Suzanne’s love of Korea began over 30 years ago, when she first came here as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer. She completed her two-year term of service in a rural health center in Chungju and later became an in-country Peace Corps staff member. A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Suzanne has taught at several Korean universities, including Yonsei University, Chung-ang University, and Hankook University of Foreign Studies. She is also an accomplished author, having written many books and articles on Korean customs and traditions. Her stories based on Korean folktales are included in a number of anthologies and children’s reading textbooks in North America. Suzanne is currently President of the International Dragon Circle, a cross-cultural women’s group dedicated to the study and appreciation of Korean culture. In addition, she is a member of the board of the American Women’s Club of Korea, and the secretary of the Royal Asiatic Society-Korea Branch.
Clara Jihyun Kim, Program Assistant, is a second-year graduate student in the Department of Education at Yonsei University. She graduated from Ewha University with a B.A. in English Literature. She is glad to introduce a rich and dynamic Korea culture to CIEE participants. She hopes each student will spend the best time of their life in Korea, having lots of fun, creating unforgettable memories and long-lasting friendships, and learning Korean.
