Become a CIEE Host Family
Build a global family by volunteering to become a cultural ambassador, part-time parent, and mentor to a CIEE High School USA exchange student.
At CIEE, we create opportunities that help bring people together. We foster the development of understanding and mutual respect between communities and nations by promoting the exchange of ideas and experiences. We help give students, teachers, and young professionals from across the world skills that make them active and responsible global citizens.
You can advance our mission by agreeing to volunteer your time as a CIEE host family. Being a CIEE High School USA host family is about creating a home away from home for a student from one of 55 countries across the globe.

Volunteer
CIEE host parents are volunteers who must be at least 25 years old, and able to provide the following:
- A welcoming home for one or two high school semesters
- Family support
- A bedroom and a bed (students can share rooms with children of the same gender within four years of his/her age)
- An appropriate place to study
- Meals at home and school
- Assistance coordinating appropriate transportation

Not sure? CIEE will support you every step of the way. Our Local Coordinators, also known as LCs, are your go-to resource, members of your community who are ready to ensure a positive exchange experience.
Your LC will:
• Outline the program and get to know you, so we can match you with the right student.
• Be your principal CIEE contact while you’re hosting, and your first resource for advice, guidance, and assistance. We also have expert staff on call 24/7 to assist with any questions.
