Why Back-to-Back Summer Abroad Programs Are Worth it?

We’re returning this school year with the latest CIEE Global Navigator Out of Your Comfort Zone podcast!

In this episode, we had the opportunity to reconnect with two special guests who experienced a unique study abroad adventure together during their high school summer abroad in Spain.

One of our guests is CIEE Global Navigator participant Vara V. and the other is CIEE Program Leader Ryan V. In summer 2024, they both were a part of back-to-back summer abroad programs focused on Spanish Language & Culture.

Starting in Alicante for four weeks in June and ending in Palma de Mallorca for four weeks in July, their experience lasted a total of eight weeks (that’s two whole months!).

Both our guests spoke about how they prepared for this longer adventure and they also both expressed the value of being immersed in the Spanish language for an extended period.

While participants can deepen their understanding of the language, customs, and way of life, Program Leaders can grow their experiential teaching skills and further their understanding of a region they already love.

Another one of the highlights of a back-to-back program is growing your connections with CIEE staff and other back-to-back program travelers. To hear directly from our guests about back-to-back programs, tune in below:

If you're considering a high school summer abroad program, we encourage you to explore the possibility of doing consecutive programs. This approach offers a way to make the most of your time abroad with a more in-depth cultural experience.

You can also make even greater strides in your language learning, career exploration, and personal growth.
