How I Made $2,000 Referring Other Students on Summer Abroad Programs
Post written by CIEE Global Navigator alum Yaisy V. from California, who was a CIEE Global Ambassador and participated in the Global Navigator Marketing Internship in spring of 2024. In this post, Yaisy shares the ways being part of the CIEE Global Ambassador program helped her earn big rewards by helping other high school students go abroad.
Every year, CIEE’s high school study abroad programs help students like me experience the world at a young age.
After studying abroad with CIEE in Tokyo on the Japanese Language & Culture program in the summer of 2023, I wanted to continue my involvement with this amazing program!
As an alum, I am part of the Refer-A-Friend Program where I am able to receive earn rewards for referring my friends and peers to CIEE while helping them also receive a big discount off of program tuition costs.
During my school year after returning from my summer abroad, I helped students pick from a variety of high school summer abroad programs. In a span of about six months, I was able to help my fellow high school students start and complete their applications, which helped me make $2,000 in return.
Here’s how I did it.
Leveraging My Communication and Leadership Skills
As a Global Navigator alum, I committed myself to sharing CIEE programs. I wanted to make a large and long-term impact!
To accomplish this, I connected with students from local high schools and shared my passion for study abroad. I created a team with skillful and passionate individuals that were able to share my referral code. This helped me endorse global education in my community at a larger scale. I lead my team to share this wonderful opportunity and design their own promotion items. We collaborated and thoughtfully created visually-appealing flyers and slides to ignite students' interest.
On our promotion materials, we ensured my referral code was visible and easily accessible.
Our mission resonated with teachers' interest and we gained the support of many school staff that allowed us to help 26 students get started with their high school summer abroad applications and shared the referral code 60 times.
Joining the CIEE Global Ambassador Program
The CIEE Global Ambassador Program is an enriching experience that allows high school study abroad alumni to share their referral code through a variety of initiatives. As a Global Ambassador, I took advantage of all the great opportunities to share my referral code, such as being a guest speaker at the Global Navigator Virtual Fair, which typically happens in November. I spoke about my experience studying in Tokyo while sharing my passion for global education. I was able to share my referral code to over 100 students!
The above strategies paved the way to my success referring other students, helping them get a discount and raising $2,000.
You can do this too if you get creative in your community and stay connected to CIEE after your program ends through the opportunities made available.
