making ends meet

CIEE Teach in Spain participants can afford reasonable but not extravagant lifestyles. No matter where you live, you’ll have some money for fun, but even a simple pleasure like a weekend trip to the beach will require some creative juggling or supplemental funds. As you’d expect, your salary will go further in rural areas where the cost of shared accommodations and food is lower than in larger towns and cities.

compensation includes:

  • stipend: €700 monthly for 8 months (October 2008 - May 2009)
  • accommodations: provided for your first 10 days in Andalusia

program fees (valid for departures through September 2008)

academic year contract (late September 2008– late May 2009)

  • application fee: $50
  • program fee: $1,950

Fees do not include airfare, visa fees/expenses, permanent housing, or incidentals.

program benefits

  • Priority school assignments made with Junta de Andalucía and CIEE cooperation.
  • Orientation in Seville, including:
    • Cross-cultural training including local integration, Andalusian Spanish introduction, sightseeing trips
    • Classes on TEFL theory and teaching methodology
    • Accommodations and most meals
    • Transportation to Andalusian school
  • Insurance: (accident, illness, travel, medical evacuation, repatriation)
  • 24/7 in-country emergency support services from local CIEE staff
  • Pre-departure advice to help plan and prepare
  • Program handbook with useful information from teaching advice to local resources
  • Lonely Planet Andalucía guidebook
  • Visa application advice (it is necessary to apply for Spanish visas in person at the Embassy/Consulate)

housing
CIEE will provide each participant with 10-days accommodations that begin the first day of orientation; 5 days in Seville followed by 5 days in your school location. This provides participants with a base from which to locate a permanent living situation. During orientation we’ll focus a session on apartment hunting. Participants should plan to live with roommates to help make ends meet.
