I was visiting islas flotantes (floating islands) on lake Titicaca in Puno,
Peru. There are communities living on these islands made completely out of
reeds – reed floors, reed houses, reed boats, reed arts and crafts – right
in the middle of the lake. This little girl lives in one of these island
communities, and she was just standing there looking around for someone who
would help her climb the ladder up to the watchtower. Eventually three of us got
