About Alicante

With a population approaching 350,000, Alicante is a thriving Spanish city. Located on the Mediterranean coast, Alicante is an inviting place for students to begin their exploration of Spain or continue a previous journey. In recent times, Alicante has experienced a development boom and rapid population growth. Students will see modern architecture and Internet cafés alongside historic buildings, and shopping malls next to centuries-old open-air markets. Although fast becoming a cosmopolitan and multicultural city, Alicante retains a distinct Spanish flavor.

Where You'll Study

Universidad de Alicante

The Universidad de Alicante is one of Spain’s newest universities, located three miles outside the city of Alicante. Established to serve the higher education needs of the province of Alicante, the Universidad de Alicante offers its 35,000 students the benefits of a modern campus with an international atmosphere. The CIEE Study Center offices are located on the main campus in San Vicente and provide students direct access to University facilities.

Thoughts From Abroad

Your study abroad experience is about to begin. Living and learning in a foreign country will allow you to grow as a student, while becoming a more global person. The city of Alicante, famous for its miles of soft sandy beaches, excellent weather, palm trees, and socio-cultural traditions, will be a magnificent starting point to many other aspects of your experience.

Upon arrival, you will discover that Alicante offers the lifestyle that includes everything you need. Over the years, the growth in population has injected a cosmopolitan feel to the city, while it retains much of its traditional culture. You will never be bored with so many fantastic places to visit—museums, historical buildings, miles of beaches, nearby charming towns, and evening entertainment—not to mention the fantastic weather all year-round.

If you are ready to accept this challenge, then get ready to live, swim, and dream in Spanish! I am looking forward to sharing with you my city on the Mediterranean.
