Since 1947, the Council on International Educational Exchange, known as CIEE and formerly, Council, has been in pursuit of its mission, "to help people gain understanding, acquire knowledge, and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world." Our services to young people studying and teaching abroad are more important than ever. As we look ahead, we reaffirm our commitment to the principles and values that guide this mission statement.
CIEE is a membership organization composed of mainly U.S. institutions of higher education. CIEE member institutions are firmly committed to the CIEE mission and to CIEE Educational Principles.
CIEE offers
educational programs abroad for students, faculty and educational
administrators. In addition, CIEE hosts an
Annual Conference on International Educational Exchange,
a major annual event for professionals in international
educational exchange. As part of its long publishing history, CIEE was the founding institution and
one of the on-going sponsors of the Journal of Studies in
International Educational Exchange, a forum for noteworthy
scholarship and provocative thinking about efforts to provide
quality international educational exchange programs. In addition, we play a strong advocacy role in trying to influence decisions that impact the student and educator mobility around the world.
