Rationale
This seminar will examine the many issues related to Brazil’s economy and its growth, focusing on environmental implications. Attend lectures by prominent academics, community leaders and members of the business community and NGOs. In addition to Sao Paulo, Brazil’s business center, you’ll travel to Parati, a beautiful colonial city located close to the last untouched vestiges of the Atlantic rainforest.
Host Institution
The seminar is hosted by the Assessoria de Relações Internacionais (International Relations Commission) of the Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC). PUC, founded in 1946, has 22,000 students and 2,000 professors and is considered among the best universities in Brazil. PUC maintains a research tradition which is unique among private institutions of higher learning in Brazil. Among PUC’s well known intellectuals are Paulo Freire and Florestan Fernandes. PUC had an important role in the resistance of the dictatorship regime in Brazil as well as participation in Brazil’s re-democratization process.
Seminar Leadership
Ana Luiza de Lima Coimbra, Resident Director of the CIEE Study Center in São Paulo, along with selected faculty from PUC, organizes the academic content and seminar logistics in São Paulo.
